Physical Education
Introduction
The PE department delivers PE lessons at KS3, 4 and 5.
Pupils are offered a wide range of Sports to participate in within lessons and also before and after school as extra curricular clubs and sports team, these are all delivered by experienced members of the PE team. PE is an extremely popular subject at Christ’s College and Sport plays an important role in the pupils development. Students have the opportunity to choose GCSE PE as one of their options, and are able to continue their study of sport into A Level Physical Education.

Aims and enrichment
Aims
The PE department strongly believes in the importance of physical activity in the development of young people.
The department has 4 main aims:
- Pupils develop a lifelong love and participation of sport and physical activity.
- Pupils understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
- Talent in a wider range of physical activities is fostered and developed, with the opportunity to play competitive sport for all.
- Cross curricular, and external club sport links are developed.
Enrichment
There is a wide and diverse opportunity to engage with enrichment in PE. Inclusive clubs are delivered before and after school on a seasonal basis. Clubs are open to all, with participation and performance both encourage in equal measure. Our main clubs include but not limited to; Football, Netball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Fitness/Weights room, Cricket, Athletics, Rounders. We also enter teams into the majority of Barnet league and cup competitions, attend athletics meets in summer and perform at the Barnet Dance Festival. In 6th Form there is the opportunity to engage with the Basketball Academy programme, as well as a senior Netball and Football team.
The department also lead regular trips to elite sporting events (eg. Middlesex Cricket at Lords, London Lions Basketball at the Copper Box Arena), and run the annual Ski Trip.
Key stage 3
Pupils will participate in the following sports at KS3; Football, Basketball, Netball Rugby, Fitness, Dance, Gymnastics, OAA, Table Tennis, Handball, Badminton, Athletics, Cricket, Rounders, Softball and Short Tennis.
Year 7
Lessons will focus on developing the basic skills needed for each activity.
Year 8
Lessons will focus on applying skills in competitive situations.
Year 9
Lessons will focus on leading practices and giving feedback to fellow pupils.
Key stage 4
Exam Board: AQA
This includes practical & non examination assessment coursework (40%) and theory (60%) lessons.
Practical Syllabus: (3 sports from the following) Basketball, Handball, Football, Athletics, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Netball, Swimming, Golf. Pupils are also able to be assessed in any Sports they participate in outside of schools that are listed on the syllabus.
Theory syllabus: Health fitness & Wellbeing, Sport Psychology, Socio-cultural influences on sport, Anatomy & Physiology, Biomechanics, Physical training.

Pupils not choosing GCSE PE will participate in Games lessons in KS4. Pupils will participate in the following activities: Football, Badminton, Athletics, Table Tennis, Basketball, Rounders, Cricket, Fitness suite, Handball, Volleyball, Dodgeball

Games
Pupils who do not choose GCSE PE will participate in Games lessons in KS4. Pupils will participate in the following activities: Football, Badminton, Athletics, Table Tennis, Basketball, Rounders, Cricket, Fitness suite, Handball, Volleyball, Dodgeball
Key stage 5
The course is comprised of theory units (70%) and practical units & non examination assessment coursework (30%).
Practical: Students can choose to be assessed in any sport on the AQA syllabus as a Player, Coach or Official.
Theory: Applied Exercise Physiology, Skill Acquisition, Sport & Society, Exercise Physiology and Biomechanical Movement, Sport Psychology, Sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport.
